<p>The device makes use of the powerful SH-2A core. This core, an enhanced version of Renesas’ SH-2 core and having a superscalar architecture, has two execution units in the pipeline, allowing two instructions to be processed concurrently and code can be executed up to twice as fast as the CPU clock. In addition, its Harvard-based architecture ensures that no bus conflicts occur between instruction fetch and data access. The SH-2A also features the addition of an optional Floating Point Unit (FPU) and although not featured on the SH7286, provides an upgrade path for codes needing faster DSP functionality. </p>

Irvine, Calif. — Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) has expanded its synchronous dc/dc converter lineup with five new power MOSFETs aimed at mobile and desktop computers, servers, game consoles and other electronic devices to convert input voltage to the level required for various subsystems such as the processor, memory and input-output devices.

Developed by Toshiba Corp., the five MOSFETs take advantage of improvements for N-channel devices in the company's fifth-generation UMOS V-H process to achieve low on-state resistance (RDS(ON)) as well as fast switching for high-side MOSFET applications, enabled through lower gate charge (QSW) and lower gate resistance (Rg).

The first new device is the TPCM8004, which features drain-source voltage (VDSS) of 30 V (max.), drain current (ID) of 24 A (max.), RDS(ON) of 11 milliohm (mΩ) maximum, low gate resistance of 1Ω typical, and a low-profile TSSOP Advance package measuring 3.5 x 4.65 x 0.75mm.

The TPCA8030-H and TPCA8031-H MOSFETs are targeted for use as high-side dc/dc converter MOSFETs with VDSS of 30 V (max.), ID of 24 A (max.), and RDS(ON) of 11.0mΩ (max.). The TPCA8030-H offers a typical gate resistance of 1Ω, while the TPCA8031-H provides a typical gate resistance rated at 3.4Ω. Both devices are available in low-profile SOP Advance packaging, measuring 5 x 6 x 0.95 mm.

The Toshiba TPC8037-H and TPC8038-H MOSFETs are high-side MOSFETs with VDSS of 30 V (max.), ID of 12 A (max.), and RDS(ON) of 11.4 mΩ (max.). The TPC8037-H has a typical gate resistance of 1Ω, while the TPC8038-H has a typical gate resistance rated at 3.4Ω. Both devices are available in SOP 8 packaging, which measures 5 x 6 x 1.6 mm.

PARIS — Deux mois après l'introduction de sa technologie de transport sur une puce, baptisée T-Chip, Ekinops SA annonce le développement d'une fonctionnalité capable de supporter 80 canaux WDM sur une distance de 2000 kilomètres.

Ekinops (Lannion, France) explique que sa solution longue-distance repose sur sa technologie de codes correcteurs d'erreurs DynaFEC, vouée à optimiser les performances de transport en augmentant les distances de transmission via des transpondeurs et des amplificateurs économiques.

Revenues for the second quarter of 2008 were $420.9 million , up 2.4 percent compared to $411.2 million for the first quarter of 2008 and a 4.1-percent increase compared to $404.2 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2007.

Net loss for the second quarter of 2008 amounted to $4.9 million, or minus $0.01 per diluted share. This compares to net income of $6.8 million , or $0.02 per diluted share, for the first quarter of 2008 and net income of $0.7 million , or $0.00 per diluted share, for the year-ago quarter.

SAN FRANCISO— John Kispert, president and chief operating officer (COO) of semiconductor equipment supplier KLA-Tencor Corp., will step down at the end of the year, the company said Thursday (Aug. 28).

Kispert's responsibilities will be assumed by CEO Rick Wallace, the company said.

Kispert has been with KLA-Tencor since 1995, holding several posts. He appoint president and COO in January 2006 and has served as the company's interim chief financial officer (CFO) since March.
